Skerries Sailing Club is delighted to host the IODAI 2014
Optimist Ulsters this year. This will take place on Sat and Sunday
14th & 15th June.
There are 3 different fleets in this event, Seniors Racing
Fleet (over 12 years up to 15 years), Junior Racing Fleet (U12 years) and The
Regatta Fleet (those who are only learning to race who will have training in
the morning and racing in the afternoon). Both senior and junior racing
fleets are split into Gold and Silver fleets. All new entries will be
accepted as Silver Fleet Entries.
The event takes place over two full days but with the last
race must be started by 1500 hrs on Sunday. Usually 5 races are
sailed over the 2 days.
It is a great event to take part in and there will be
support on and off the water for our Skerries Sailors. This year
IODAI have agreed a temporary membership to the Optimist Class of €20 to join
for the event to allow our sailors to partake in the event. Entry fee to
the event for everyone is €60 and normal membership is €50. This year SSC
sailors can available of a cheaper rate of €80 to take part (extremely good
value for the Regatta fleet which comprises of coaching by top Optimist coaches
and racing).
Entry however is limited to 40 in the Regatta fleet and at
the time of typing our notice to our members there are already 10 entries for
this class. If you entry is not received unfortunately it will not be
accepted as we are limited with rescue of 1:8 maximum and also coaches.
Whether you have already started sailing or not yet sailing
this season we highly recommend you come down and take part. All you
need is your boat fully rigged and your sailing gear.
