Skerries Sailing Club

Junior Newsletter
May 16th 2014

When is our summer coming?  Promises from Met Eireann for hot temperatures this week have still not come true.  Last weekend was another windy weekend and despite rigging and almost launching our Saturday sailors did not get on the water.  This Saturday is looking better so fingers crossed!

For all Oppie sailors (racing or training fleets) please keep an eye on emails. We will be issuing entry forms for Skerries Sailing Club sailors for the Optimist Ulsters (14th and 15th June).  This will enable SSC members to join in on two full days of coaching/racing run by IODAI and our local instructors. It is excellent value. Event entry fee will be €60 and temporary membership to IODAI €20.  Two full days of coaching & racing by top national coaches.  Highly recommended.  If you need any further information contact Olive @ 087 2664202 or Aidan @ 086 2426156

RESULTS FROM OUR SAILORS:

420s

The only class who travelled last weekend were the 420s who travelled to County Antrim YC in Whitehead.  Results:
  • 1st Robert Dixson & Sean Waddilove HYC/SSC
  • 4th Dougie Elms & Bill Staunton RCYC/SSC

Topper Leinster’s

Congrats to Ros Morgan who has secured a place on the ISA Topper Squad, who will now travel with the team to the Topper Worlds.  Well done Ros!

We are in the process of repairing our Yellow racing marks and these will be ready with new anchors warp and ready for use for our racing season.
We are also purchasing some larger yellow and pink racing marks for use on larger courses and for any of our events.  Keep an eye on them for our Junior Regatta and the Oppie Ulsters.

Oppie Sailors - Avoid Being Swamped

Oppie sailors – if you find in windy weather you are nose diving and swamping, sit further back in the boat (almost sitting on back buoyancy bag) and lift your dagger board approx. 10 cm up and that should make a difference.
